Roofing Estimator
Summary
The Estimator is responsible for pricing and selling those jobs assigned to him, as well as a number of support activities. This position requires accuracy, persistence, perseverance, a willingness to learn, and a high degree of integrity and responsibility. An estimator must have the ability to provide quick turnaround of tasks, work well under pressure, manage time and priorities well, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and communicate effectively with coworkers and customers. An estimator must also have the ability to work independently, maintain confidential information, be a team player, make decisions requiring independent judgment, and interpret and apply applicable policies, regulations and rules.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D

- Ability to multi-task and effectively manage time and priorities

Essential Functions
Project Bid:
- Download the full set of bid documents and conduct an initial project assessment. Determine the time needed to complete the project and evaluate the project needs to develop a plan to successfully complete all requirements on time.
- Determine the RFI/clarification/substitution request deadline and submit as needed.
- Thoroughly review the specs, drawings, details, and other bid docs to fully understand the essence of each project and ensure we comply with all products and requirements as outlined.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and/or visit the site as needed/required. Measure, evaluate, and perform test cuts for re-roofing projects.
- Coordinate all project specific requirements with appropriate personnel according to current processes and procedures.
- Communicate with appropriate personnel for input on production, equipment needs, and overall logistics for each project.
- Evaluate potential value engineering or betterments and determine the best way to handle these potential changes on each project.
- Obtain necessary material and subcontractor quotes. Ensure they meet project requirements and evaluate best overall pricing to be used in the final bid.
- Coordinate all proposal and other docs for rip and read projects according to current processes and procedures.
- Use good judgement to produce an accurate take-off and complete estimate.
- Participate in bid reviews according to current processes and procedures.
- Produce and send complete bid proposal outlining specific scope of work, specification sections incorporated in the bid, and exclusions/other clarifications from the bid.
- Regularly maintain CRM as required for all upcoming bids, bids submitted, and follow up activity to customer.
- Work with the GC/customer as much as possible to establish a relationship that allows us the opportunity for last look at project pricing.
- Daily coordination with sales staff on status of open bids and updates as to which GC’s have been awarded projects.
- Conduct a scope review of the project with the GC/customer to ensure that scope is covered and that all parties are in agreement. Follow through with action items given during the scope review.
- Initiate and maintain open line of communication with various GC’s/customers.
- Perform budget evaluations for GC/customer during the pre-construction and design process of projects to establish a relationship that allows us the opportunity for last look at project pricing.
- Use discretion to determine what alternatives are viable solutions for GC/customer and offer them to better WEBCO’s position to sell project.
Project Award:
- Review and negotiate the contract to ensure that the scope and other requirements are correct and line up with how the project was estimated. Also, ensure that the contract amount matches our bid amount.
- Produce project fact sheet and submit for initiation of project number and entry into accounting system.
- Produce project schedule of values and submit with all pertinent billing information.
- Request, prepare for, and participate in start meetings according to current processes and procedures.
- Complete required action items in a timely manner.
- Review completed submittals to ensure the scope and all other project specific requirements are correct.
- Review completed submittals and ensure all cost-effective measures have been taken into account.
- Support other departments to help them complete their tasks and responsibilities effectively.
Physical Demands

- Requires climbing ladders, scaffolds, or poles
- Requires considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body in order to climb, lift, balance, walk, and handle materials
- Requires seeing details at close range
Work Environment
- Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions, in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures, includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
